The goal of this new resource is to articulate a stable, dynamic and agile system for attracting investment. Barcelona Investment Office will act in the four stages of the investment cycle: promotion, attraction, landing and ongoing support.

The attraction stage will be strengthened in particular to detect interested projects and to design strategies for influencing decisions. To this end, an investment committee will be set up, along with an institutional coordination space for the various stakeholders involved.

The office is a public-private collaboration mechanism, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce, Barcelona Global, the Government of Catalonia, Fira de Barcelona, the Zona Franca Consortium, Port de Barcelona, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area.

39% more foreign investment projects

Work was carried out with 156 projects interested in investing in the city in 2024, some 43% more than in 2023, of which 32 (39%) have now landed, creating 1,257 jobs between them. Some 69% of projects come from outside the EU, highlighting the city’s international appeal. These 32 projects are mainly in the areas of information and communication technology (28%), industry and manufacturing (22%) and logistics and transport (13%).

Notable projects include the AstraZeneca R+D centre, the ELIAN distribution plant at Port de Barcelona and the global headquarters of the International Electric Marine Association.

The task of attracting and providing support for investment is carried out via the Directorate for International Economic Promotion, as well as the Business Landing Service and Business Support Office at Barcelona Activa.
