Over the years, Sarrià’s high street has become the centre for shops, bars and buildings that give it an enviable spirit and vitality.

The arrival of the rail road in 1869 sparked a radical change. When the walls of Barcelona were torn down, members of the Bourgeoisie flocked to Sarrià fleeing the densely populated city. The Collserola Mountains were only two hours away from Barcelona. Sarrià became a place for the wealthy to summer or enjoy nature and fresh air in. Tradesmen were needed to build houses for them, and masons, painters, blacksmiths and carpenters, among others, settled all along the Carrer Major de Sarrià. They created a vibrant commercial street that still houses many venerable establishments.
