The paintings of pere pruna

The painting of Pruna (Barcelona, 1904-77) is characterised by religious mysticism and a predilection for angels. These themes also impregnate the chapel’s frescos, which he painted between 1952 and 1954. In 1970, the nuns sold the convent’s land, but the chapel was acquired by Barcelona City Council. After remaining closed for a long period, restoration work began in 1998, giving the chapel its present-day appearance. The same year, the centre joined Barcelona’s civic-centre network, having been named after Pere Pruna as a tribute to the artist.

Contemporary art and music

The Pere Pruna Civic Centre is home to the district’s Choir Board. This body organises and programmes La primavera coral (the Choral Spring), the Cycle of Religious Music and the Cycle of Youth Concerts, in collaboration with various music schools. It also participates in other musical and artistic activities. The centre also manages the programming and registrations for the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district’s Literary Routes.
