This building was designed by Enric Sagnier and finished in 1894 for the Sisters of Jesus and Mary, who previously had a school in Sant Andreu de Palomar. Feeling threatened by the popular revolts and general strikes in working-class Barcelona at the end of the 19th century, numerous members of the clergy sought refuge in Sant Gervasi de Cassoles. Besides being higher up than Barcelona and with purer air, it also provided ample building space and fertile soil for planting.
