The Raval neighbourhood is one of the most diverse in the city: cultures from all corners of the world live together harmoniously together and its range of businesses is a perfect reflection of this.

  • Going shopping

From Tallers to Drassanes

From C/ Tallers to Drassanes, the Raval’s commercial hub has more than 2000 shops: there are traditional family businesses, that have survived the modernisation of the neighbourhood and specialist shops that are the best in the city, such as the second-hand record shops around C/ Tallers. The area contains the most-photographed market in the city, the Boqueria and alternative businesses, inspired by the flea markets of other European capitals. And all that, not to mention the modern design establishments that have positioned the neighbourhood at the forefront of the avant-garde and originality.

Consumer culture

The Raval neighbourhood is also one of the best places in to city for consumer culture: here you will find some of the most prestigious cultural institutions in Catalonia, such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house; Teatre Romea; the Virreina Centre de la Imatge; the ultra-modern Filmoteca de Catalunya; the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and the Barcelona Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB); the Biblioteca de Catalunya; the Institute of Catalan Studies; Escola Massana and the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB). The shopping hub is a key part of the Raval Cultural project, a collection of over three hundred cultural offerings from the neighbourhood.
