Water with radium

Located right at the entrance to Parc de la Creueta del Coll, Finca Sansalvador was built by the architect Josep Maria Jujol, a disciple of Gaudí, at the request of Dr Sansalvador and it became known as a curious site in the Gràcia neighbourhood. At first, the owner intended to build a summer residence facing Passeig de la Mare de Déu del Coll and build another house to be rented out at the top part. The curious thing is that, during the execution work, a water mine with alleged radiological and medicinal properties was discovered which the doctor decided to market under the Agua Radial brand. For this reason, Sansalvador changed his original plan and built a series of grottos to access the spring, to take the water to the bottling plant, and a romantic garden to incorporate them into a natural landscape, even though the water did not turn out to be as miraculous as he thought.

Today, all that remains of the interrupted project is the porter’s lodge, a small house with a small balcony decorated with coloured ceramic tiles that was recently renovated, in keeping with the original design, especially the garden, with a series of underground tunnels which can be accessed through some magnificent parabolic arches that lead to the water spring.

Finca Sansalvador currently houses the History Workshop of Gràcia which often organises open-house events.
