The former Ateneu Batllori, between C/Sant Crist and C/ Cros, is one of the Sants neighbourhood’s most historical buildings.

Cultural heritage

Inaugurated in 1877, the building is noted for a spectacular façade with Classical architectural features and reliefs of plants and faces. It has housed many different activities, chief amongst which was as the seat of the Foment Republicà movement in Sants, where the left-wing republican party Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya was founded in 1931. The first editions of the Jocs Florals de Sants, the legendary poetry competition, were also held here. It is the last remaining site to be conserved in Sanz of the old manufacturing centres dating back to the 19th century.
