This fountain originally stood on the old Pg Esplanada but was later moved to the Palau de Belles Arts garden and then, in 1928, to its present location on Pg de Sant Joan.

The Fountain of Hercules (1797) is the oldest monumental fountain in the city. Created by the sculptor Salvador Gurri and the monumental mason Josep Moret, it is made from Montjuïc stone. It was made to commemorate the visit of King Charles IV and his marriage to Maria Lluïsa of Bourbon-Parma, both of whom appear in the oval-shaped medallion on the pedestal. Neoclassical in style, the fountain is crowned by a naked Hercules leaning on a club, with the hide of the Nemean lion over his arm.
