Cultural heritage
The arrival of the train in Sarrià in 1869 provoked a big social change in the ancient agricultural town. The demolition of the Barcelona walls in 1854 meant the exodus for a new bourgeois class, which was eager to get out of a crowded and highly polluted city. Progress in the field of railway engineering shortened the distance between Barcelona and Collserola to a mere two hours; which is why the railway station is the symbol of the technological and social development in Sarrià. The town became a privileged holiday location for many industrial bourgeoisie looking for a natural environment and a healthier climate.
