Huerto del Forat came about through social struggle, after the large-scale demolition of the PERI neighbourhood of San Pedro. It was known as the Hole of Shame. It has gradually become a public space for the neighbourhood. As such, the Huerto del Forat is managed by the community. It is a farming and ecological resource for strengthening social ties and improving the environment in the neighbourhood.

L'hortet del forat es va iniciar l'any 2000 a partir d'un pla urbanístic que va tirar a terra alguns edificis, i va quedar un espai buit que els veïns i veïnes van anomenar el "Forat de la vergonya".En aquest espai sostenible d´uns 120 m2, es va començar a plantar un hort de producció ecològica, comunitària i autogestionada.L'hort és un recurs socialitzador, obert a tothom i sense límit de participació, on es cultiven herbes medicinals i hortalisses ecològiques, hi ha una àrea de compostatge, s'organitzen activitats, tallers i menjars populars amb la collita.
