Doing sport
A lot more than competitions
Apart from being a venue for cycle races and competitions, the Horta Cycle Track is also a facility at the service of the citizens of Barcelona. There are therefore activities open to everyone, such as courses for beginners to the world of cycling for children and adults, and coaching processes. You can also enjoy sports massages, the adjoining BMX circuit and the natural setting of Collserola Park. Very nearby you can also see a visual poem by Joan Brossa.
Municipal cycling school
The facility is also the Centre of the Catalan Cycling Federation and the Municipal Cycling School. The school is a sports project aimed at educating children as people and citizens through cycling, with road safety skills, but at the same time instilling human values such as teamwork and effort.
The Cycle Track opened in 1984 for the World Track Cycling Championship. It was designed by the architects Esteve Bonell and Francesc Rius in collaboration with the German specialist Herbert Schürmann. The facility was awarded the FAD prize for Architecture in 1984.
