In 1832, the Bonaplata brothers decided to expand their Indiana fabrics business and created a new company called “Bonaplata, Rull, Vilaregut and Compania”. In 1833, the Bonaplata factory opened in Carrer Talleres beside the old walls. This marked the beginning of modern industrialisation in Catalonia. Because it was the first factory to use steam-powered fabrics machinery, its machines were made by melted iron inside wood.
