Cultural heritage
Designed in 1904 by Joan Martorell i Montells, it was set on fire during the events of the Tragic Week (1909) and refurbished by the architect’s son. The church is neo-Byzantine in style, with Gothic and neo-Mudéjar features. Commissioned by the Claretians, the decoration includes the coat of arms of Mary’s heart, the tablets with the Ten Commandments and the Book of Wisdom. The front still shows the damage caused by big guns and bullets during the Spanish Civil War, when it was turned into a vehicle repair workshop and a storehouse.
The adjacent school contains the remains of the new convent founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret and built in 1871, when this was the outskirts of Gràcia.
